Happy Valentine’s Day you wonderful person you.
Even though today seems to be the day of couples it really is the day of LOVE and not just love for couples but yourself. Even if you have someone special in your life the first person in your life you should love is you.
Believe me this is not easy. My mother used to say, “you need to love yourself first.” This is a statement that took over 30 years for me to do. Here is how I take steps to put myself first and really prove that I love myself at the end of the day.
Put yourself first.
You are so important. As a human being we tend to put everyone before you. It could be your partner, your kids, your family or your friends but even though you spoil people around you should also learn to put yourself as a priority. As I sit here writing this I know this is very hard. Putting yourself first doesn’t make you selfish it makes you smart. You need to take care of yourself so you can take care of others.
Don’t put up with jerks in your life!
This one is a big one. No matter what don’t put up with horrible people. As I am writing this I am dealing with taking negative people out of my life. I seriously don’t care if this is your family, your closest friends or people you work with. You my dear are valuable not only to you but to others. If someone doesn’t care enough to treat you right tell them how you feel and be done. You don’t need their negativity in your life. No matter who it is, no matter how you try if they are jerks there just really isn’t any room in your life for them. If you keep toxic people in your life you run the risk of having truly amazing people in your life.
Just as my last post stated. Taking care of yourself is so important. If you don’t care for yourself you become weak, tired and not able to handle the stress of life. I do small things for myself weekly just so I am a better mom, wife, friend and worker. My smallest self care is probably my favorite. I love doing a facial mask at night while reading a good book or writing.
Make you better
Do things that make you a better person. Go back to school, read a new book, get yourself a facial or massage… there are countless things you can do to make yourself better. Even if its a new color of lipstick you will feel better by bettering you.
Take a break
Don’t stretch yourself too thin. Taking a break has been proven to make you a better you. If its a quick nap. watching your favorite TV show or doing a solo trip to Target you deserve a time out. This renews your spirit and your drive to keep going. This is especially important for parents. Give your self a good time out… you can thank me later. 😉
Buy yourself something nice
You deserve pretty things. You deserve nice things. You deserve the world. Make yourself important enough to get yourself something nice from time to time. You buy things for everyone else and even though you get some gifts from time to time showing yourself a little spoiling never hurt anyone.
So happy another Valentine’s Day you made it. Now time to make yourself your own Valentine all year long.
